Bureau Burgerberaad is an independent non-profit organization in the Netherlands dedicated to strengthening democracy by promoting and supporting citizens’ assemblies (‘burgerberaden’). Our mission is to make citizens’ assemblies as commonplace as elections, enabling politicians and residents to collaborate on solving complex societal issues and shaping the future together. The organization does not organize assemblies itself, but acts as a knowledge center and gives advice, training and support to governments and other professionals to ensure high-quality, impactful citizens’ assemblies. Bureau Burgerberaad also contributes to creating opportunities for citizens to experience what it means to participate in democracy.
